Preds beat Blackhawks 5-1, Kane extends streak to 24 games

It marked the first time since November 25 that the Predators didn’t allow a power-play goal, a span of seven games.

As I stated earlier, the only bright spot in that entire game was Patrick Kane’s goal to extend the streak, but it didn’t do much to qualm my fears about how the rest of the game was going to go.

Kruger and Duncan Keith had the assists on Kane’s goal. I obviously feel honored and very fortunate to be involved with names like those. Rinne hadn’t seen the replay after the game and didn’t want to comment. I told the guys afterwards that you can’t expect to play 60 minutes the way you like against Chicago.

Kane will have a chance to keep the streak alive Thursday night when the Blackhawks face the Nashville Predators. Teravainen one-timed a pass to Shaw, who proceeded to blast a shot past Rinne for the power play goal.

Kane’s goal overshadowed an outstanding performance by goaltender Corey Crawford, who stopped 23 of 23 shots. In a nutshell, when a team leads by multiple goals, statistics show that the opposing team tends to increase their activity in the offensive zone while the the team who leads will play more defensive hockey.

“Nobody felt good about it, and I think that showed tonight by the way we took the ice”, Nashville coach Peter Laviolette said.

What Maurice did look at: Chicago had 10 shots on its five power plays, while limiting the Jets to only one shot on their five advantages.

You can say a lot about how score effects determine the course of events throughout a hockey game.

The Jets also played for the second straight night after beating Columbus 6-4 at home on Thursday.

Of course the Predators have Rinne which means their all world goalie could get red hot at anytime and throw the team on his back for weeks at a time, but the Hawks have seemed to have solved the Predators all world goalie which we witnessed on Tuesday night. Kane scored his 18th goal of the season in Thursday’s 5-1 loss in Nashville, extending his franchise record to 24. “You just hope you qualify and sort it out then”, Quenneville said. “It’s fun being a part of it, fun watching him continue to find different ways”. Crawford was at his best when the heat was on in the third period, stopping Bryan Little and robbing former Hawk Andrew Ladd in front of the net on one sequence.

NOTES: Chicago D Trevor Daley returned to the lineup after missing two games with what he called a neck injury, suffered on Sunday in a collision against the Jets….

Dano down: The Hawks reassigned Marko Dano to Rockford on Friday. To make room on the blue line, Michal Rozsival was a healthy scratch.
