Pregame: Kill to be honorary captain for Quick Lane Bowl
Despite managing two victories in October and November combined, Minnesota (5-7, 2-6 Big Ten) slid into a bowl game due to a shortage of six-win teams.

Minnesota hopes to avoid a shootout with Central Michigan in today’s Quick Lane Bowl.
The Gopher defense will be leaned on heavily in this matchup, as their secondary is the best part of the team. Coach Jerry Kill, who had led Minnesota football over the last five seasons, was forced to retire soon to seizures, and new coach Tracy Claeys has Minny playing competitively, despite going 1-4 in his tenure. The run game of Minnesota will get the Gophers back into it, but Central Michigan’s passing game will prove to be too much as that is the one offensive strong point for both sides in this one. Second-year coach John Bonamego is not afraid to throw the ball: The Chippewas have averaged more than 313 yards per game through the air.
Central Michigan enters with an extremely pass-heavy offense.
Leidner has 13 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions while completing 218 of 377 passes (57.8 percent) for 2,478 yards.
The plus for the Chippewas (7-5) is they sold all their tickets to the local game against the Big Ten entry. However, Central Michigan has had a very tough out of conference schedule this year having played Oklahoma State and Michigan State in the early part of the year.
Central Michigan (7-5) travel at the Ford Field, Detroit, MI to take on the Minnesota (5-7) in a NCAA College Football game on December 28, 5:00 PM. Kill was also on the sidelines during Minnesota’s loss to Wisconsin. It will be a defensive battle throughout, but the Chippewas will get the last laugh in a “home” game.
Picking a victor in this game is hard as there is no clear cut favorite.

However, I think that the gophers will keep their passing offense in check and ultimately win a close game sealed by a late interception.
