Pregame news, info as LSU faces Ole Miss in Oxford; 2

Now the Tigers (7-2, 4-2 SEC, No. 15 CFP) and Rebels (7-3, 4-2, No. 22 CFP) are hoping to fix their issues on that side of the ball on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. on CBS.

The losses to Alabama and Arkansas were both by double digits, the first time that’s happened to LSU since 1999, which also is the last time LSU lost three straight.

LSU’s secondary has been an issue at times this season. Fournette had a strong performance against Arkansas with 91 yards and a touchdown, but head coach Les Miles knows that his team will have to have a few sort of passing attack to beat the Rebels Saturday.

“It’s a time where as a coach, you just bury your head and you go to work and coach like there’s no tomorrow”, Miles said this week.

A few things to watch when No. 17 LSU travels to face No. 25 MS on Saturday.

QUITE AN OFFENSE: Ole Miss continues to have the league’s best offense – especially in the passing game. Junior quarterback Chad Kelly leads the Rebels offense and is having a tremendous season.

Ole Miss is 36 points shy of breaking the single-season scoring record of 442 points set in 2003. Despite losing to Arkansas, Kelly threw for 368 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. Nkemdiche, a fifth-year senior who is the older brother of defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche, leads the team with 53 tackles this season. More importantly than historical trends when it comes to today’s matchup, thanks to Heisman candidate Leonard Fournette the Tigers are 10th in the nation in rushing yards per game, averaging 253.0 yards on the ground. Here we are with two weeks left, and if I understand this correctly, we are one of two teams that have a shot of making it (SEC Championship). The next two games are really important to deciding the future of the program.
