Zika virus, which is quickly spreading throughout the Latin America region, has already reached Mexico and the spread has been sending alarms to Americans in the United States.

Symptoms for the Zika virus tend to be mild and with the most popular symptoms being fever, rash, joint pain, muscle pain, headaches and conjunctivitis.

Eventually the test could be expanded to several dozen other Quest laboratories throughout the US and in Puerto Rico. Three people infected with Zika in Colombia who died earlier this year showed symptoms of Guillain-Barré syndrome, a neurological disorder, and earlier this month the CDC confirmed Zika’s relation to abnormally small heads in infants.

As summer is rapidly approaching, the he concern about the Zika Virus is growing. Accordingly, this man’s death from Zika wasn’t announced back in February seemingly due to the fact the cause couldn’t be confirmed at the time.

St. Louis area company Forrest Innovations hopes it can reduce the spread of the Zika virus, which is transmitted sexually and by infected mosquitoes.

The Obama administration blames the need for state cuts on Congress’ refusal to approve a $1.9 billion emergency request to fight the Zika virus, the Post reports. That’s when special traps will catch albopictus, and his lab will begin testing them for Zika. “As the weather becomes warmer we can expect that the Zika virus will enter some of the mosquitoes-the Aedes mosquitoes and become problematic”.

The new test detects genetic material known as RNA from the Zika virus in human blood serum.

The Zika virus can affect anyone, but it especially affects pregnant women. “If travel can not be avoided, women must take steps to protect themselves from mosquito bites: wear insect repellant and long sleeves and trousers, and stay in locations with window and door screens or air conditioning, if possible”.
