“In a second, two generations of that family were wiped out”, Roy said.
“Coming home from a family outing, this family was attacked by unknown individuals”, Deputy Chief of Detectives Eugene Roy said. A gunman in a vehicle opened fire on the group as they were exiting a auto after a family outing and entering their house.
Roy says the infant, also taken to the hospital, is in stable condition with injuries that aren’t life-threatening.
The 1-year-old suffered a gunshot wound in the shooting in the 5300 block of South Aberdeen just after 7 p.m, police said.
Another woman, 26, was shot in the left leg and taken to Stroger Hospital, while a 36-year-old man was also shot in the leg and later walked into Provident Hospital, police said.
The women who were fatally shot, 24-year-old Patricia Chew and 46-year-old Lolita Wells, were the boy’s mother and grandmother.
The little boy was shot in the side too, but thanks to a policeman’s timely intervention, he is now out of danger.
“The police officer brought the baby in, he was holding the baby”, Allen Florence, who saw the scene in the emergency room, told ABC. The child was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. “He made the right call, and he is somebody we are very proud of”.
