Officers said they are watching the Osprey Close property while they carry out their investigations and that no arrests have been made.
They said a 37-year-old man from Milton Keynes had been detained on suspicion of racially aggravated assault and is now in custody.
She walked to her vehicle but the man followed her, before kicking her hard in the stomach.
The woman, 34, was shopping in a Co-op near Milton Keynes when a man launched a tirade of racist abuse at her.
Senior investigating officer Det Ch Insp Mike Lynch, of the major crime unit, said: “We are in the process of investigating the incident and a murder investigation has been launched”.
A 40-year-old man had a bottle and a bag of ice smashed against his head when he tried to intervene. Police declined to give the ethnicity or religion of the victim.
The man who was attacked was also taken to Milton Keynes General and treated for head wounds.
The incident took place at around 9.40pm on Saturday, August 6 but police have just released a CCTV image of the alleged attacker and have asked anyone with information to come forward.
The first victim was pregnant and as a result of the assault she lost her baby.
