Zika is a tropical mosquito-borne infection.

South Dakota has its first Zika virus infection, a woman who traveled to a country where Zika virus is transmitted and later developed symptoms, the Department of Health said in a statement Monday.

Mosquito-borne Zika cases have been found in two neighborhoods of Miami-Dade County- the Wynwood neighborhood and Miami Beach.

South Dakota was one of the last two remaining states with a confirmed report of the virus.

“If you’re concerned about Zika”, CDC Director Tom Frieden said, “you may consider postponing all non-essential travel to all parts of Miami-Dade County”.

The governor also talked about the possibility of more Zika zones.

To date, health officials have tested roughly 83 suspected cases of the virus, eight of which were pregnant women.

The South Dakota health department says men who live in, or who have visited, Zika transmission areas are advised to abstain from unprotected sex.

If you want a textbook case of Congress failing to do its job, look no further than its pathetic and risky response to the Zika virus. Testing for Zika is time-consuming and the number of lab staff available to perform the tests is limited.

About 80 of those people will show symptoms, Longini estimates. The area north of Downtown Miami has been struggling to regain visitors and customers since the federal government issued advisories for people to avoid the area.

Zika can cause severe birth defects in pregnant women and is most commonly linked to microcephaly, a disease that causes small head size and severe developmental problems in babies, according to US health officials.

“All day, I’m taking care of patients who are anxious about Zika”, she said. “If you see standing water, no mater how small, dump it”. So far, at least 36 people in the area have been infected. “If there’s anybody who’s pregnant, then we engage in face-to-face counseling, and we explore the best options for those individuals”, said Carvalho.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention referred calls to state health officials. The pesticides used in Wynwood appear to kill about 90% of mosquitoes hit with the spray. “It’s a tough mosquito to spray”.

A case of the Zika virus has been reported in Harrison County, officials said. He has also asked the Obama administration for an additional 10,000 Zika prevention kits.

He was joined at a press conference by U.S. Rep.

The Zika virus has been linked to more than 1,700 cases of microcephaly in Brazil, raising alarm among public health officials globally about its spread. The rising rate of infections prompted the US government to declare a state of public health emergency for Puerto Rico.
