Premier League managers react to Chelsea sacking Mourinho
In May, Chelsea’s soccer club was riding high.

First-team coach Steve Holland could take charge of Saturday’s home Premier League clash with Sunderland, to hand the Blues board more time to complete the search for Mourinho’s short-term replacement.
It’s understood that Mourinho’s sacking had been in the offing for weeks with talks between both parties finally concluding on Thursday morning.
“People need to remember that this is the same group of players who won the league and the League Cup last season”, he said.
“If he felt the players weren’t playing for him then there is the opportunity there to bring players in, but obviously he wasn’t going to be given that opportunity unfortunately”.
“It’s not for me to miss him but the Premier League will miss him”.
Chelsea parted company with Mourinho by “mutual approval” on Thursday after a “palpable discord with the players”.
Still, they also said that Mourinho was leaving the team on good terms and would always be someone that they loved and respected.
The club said the focus was now on “ensuring our talented squad reaches its potential”, and added no further comment would be made until a successor is found.
Elliott believes Chelsea will look to make a short-term appointment, with Guus Hiddink tipped to return to the club on an interim basis, before hiring a manager with a long-term view, such as Diego Simeone. Hiddink was previously “caretaker manager” for the club in 2009.
Mourinho, who returned to the club in 2013 for a second spell, had signed a four-year contract, worth £250,000-a-week (€344,000), or £13m-a-year, in August. The coach’s departure is expected to cost 30 million euros, according to ESPN.
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini will not miss sacked Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho but agreed with his top-flight peers on Friday that the Premier League has suffered a big loss.
“The culture of the vulture”, he said.

“I’ve heard a lot of good support from the fans for Jose in this hard period, and I thought they would have given him longer than he’s had, based on the owner saying the fans hadn’t turned against him”.
