Premier League mayhem: Spurs blow it, West Ham hunt fourth

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is anxious that his side are becoming worn out after their 1-0 loss to West Ham United on Wednesday, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

Michail Antonio’s header off a Dimitri Payet corner in the 7th minute was the lone goal and all Slaven Bilic’s side needed to beat a disappointing Spurs side.

“Was it nerves? No”.

We took to Twitter to take a look at what Hammers fans made of his performance.

“The first half was poor, we never found solutions to play like we normally play”, conceded Pochettino. Of course, the more clean sheets you get the more points you get.

“It’s key because you know always the fans are very important and for the players it is very important to feel the support from them”, Pochettino said. “This season we start to create a basis for the future of the club”.

However, the Daily Telegraph’s Jeremy Wilson is sceptical as to whether Pochettino, who has led Spurs to second in the Premier League with nine games left to play, would move across London to Chelsea. Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, right, and West Ham United’s Emmanuel Emenike battle for the ball during the English Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham at Upton Park, London, Wednesday March 2.

Pochettino sent on Dele Alli and Son Heung-min in the closing stages, yet the birthday boy’s party was destined to end up a damp squib as Spurs ran out of steam.

Tottenham, having become the masters at coming from behind this season, had plenty of time to respond – but this time they could not find a way back.

A rejuvenated Tottenham continued to surge forward in search of an equaliser and will have wondered how it was not level when Adrian pulled off an excellent double save to keep out Toby Alderweireld’s fierce low effort and Harry Kane’s follow-up.

West Ham are unbeaten in 13 league and cup games at home (W8, D5).

Although West Ham remains sixth, it is only a point behind fourth-place City, which lost 3-0 at Liverpool.

“When you lose you can blame that the players are exhausted or whatever but the reality is that it was just a bad night for us to play the way we play tonight”.

“Maybe I’m biased but they should be more happy with the result than us, because it could have been more”.

“I will play wherever the gaffer wants us to play”, he said.
