Released on Friday, Kabali is a new Tamil movie written and directed by Pa. Ranjith, starring Rajinikanth as the title character. It also premiered in 400 USA theaters.
Rajinikanth’s Kabali released on as many as 5,000 screens across India including as many as 1,000 ones in Tamil Nadu.
One company in Chennai said it was easier to allow employees the time off to avoid piled up leave requests to the HR department, while another in Bangalore said it wanted to pre-empt the “sick leaves, mobile switch-offs and mass bunks” by workers desperate to see Kabali.
Fans of Indian superstar Rajinikanth offer prayers in front of his poster outside a cinema hall to celebrate the screening of?Kabali? in Chennai, India, Friday, July 22, 2016. Special flights have dedicated a plane for Rajini’s latest blockbuster kabali.
With no punch dialogues and no typical Superstar style statements; “Kabali” is all about Rajinikanth the actor.
The “Thalaiva” of Indian cinema is considered nothing less than a God-like figure in his home state and even famous sportsmen who are associated with Tamil Nadu can not seem to hide their excitement at the release of his latest movie, Kabali. Kabali starres the biggest star of the indsutry Rajnikanth in the main lead role.
Rajinikanth famously worked as a bus conductor in Bengaluru before heading to Chennai in 1973 to pursue a career in acting. As for the Kabali swag, all we can say to the superstar is, shine on you insane diamond!
Its performance stoked global ambitions for the Tamil-language film industry, nicknamed “Kollywood” after the Kodambakkam district of Chennai where many studios are based. As far as Sultan is concerned, it is a sports-drama and revolves around the exploits of a wrestler. It has collected over Rs 200 cr net at the domestic box office in two weeks. And Rajinikanth’s proud son-in-law and actor Dhanush tweeted: “Make way”.
Reportedly, ‘Kabali, ‘ which also stars Radhika Apte, is booked solid for the first three days. They had come to cinemas hoping against hope, but none were available at any price as nobody was willing to sell them – after all, who wants to be deprived of their Rajinikanth moment!
