Premium HDMI Cable Certification Program ensures 4K support, prevents

Since HDMI cables are digital, it’s arguably pointless to put money into “premium” variants from so-known as excessive-finish manufacturers like Monster.

HDMI Licensing is set to launch a new certification program to guarantee that consumers will get the viewing experience that high-speed HDMI cables promise to deliver. It will make sure that cables being marketed as HDMI 2.zero and 4K Extremely HD are actually able to their promised efficiency. Not all cables are capable of handling UHD 4K content, however, so a few HDMI cables are better than others (always buy high speed rather than standard speed as the price difference is negligible).

With the new voluntary HDMI Cable Certification Program, participating HDMI cable suppliers can test their cables at an HDMI Authorized Testing Center (ATC).

If you’re anxious about spending an arm and a leg on an HDMI cable, you’re not alone.

Citing the potential of 4K/UltraHD format, HDMI Licensing states its newly announced program provides an optional and additional level of product testing and it includes an anti-counterfeit labeling system.

In a further tech savvy twist, HDMI Licensing will also release a mobile app that consumers and retailers can download for free and use to verify if the cables they have in their hands are the real thing or not.

Jeff Park, HDMI Licensing, Technology Evangelist said, “With rapid growth of feature-rich, 4K/UltraHD content, it’s critical that all components in a 4K/UltraHD HDMI-connected system are fully capable of delivering on the experience”.

Manufacturers whose cables pass the test can slap the Premium HDMI Cables Certification Program label on their products in order to differentiate themselves from cables that don’t meet the 4K standard. Not only will the testing cover 4K compatibility and HDR quality, but it will also go a long way towards reducing wireless signal interference. Once approved, the premium certified cables will sport a tamper proof sticker, which should make it easier to find them in the sea of untested cables on the market.

Like Park, President of HDMI Licensing Rob Tobias also hopes to deliver peace of mind, considering the situation of the public.

The Premium HDMI Cable Certification Program is now available to HDMI adopters through HDMI Licensing’s Adopter extranet, and it says ATCs are standing by waiting to accept products to test. The Premium program only applies to wired, copper passive cables.

New certification will ensure HDMI cables can output 4K
