Prescott Solid but Not Spectacular in Debut

Terrance Williams of the Dallas Cowboys carries the ball against Kelvin Sheppard and Janoris Jenkins of the New York Giants on the last play of the game at AT&T Stadium on September 11, 2016 in Arlington, Texas.

The Giants survived for the 20-19 win-despite pretty good play from Dak Prescott, Dallas is now 1-14 in the Romo era when any other QB has started-but it was a close one.

Perhaps most important, the Giants’ defensive line did a nice job of limiting the Cowboys’ running game, holding Ezekiel Elliott and Alfred Morris to an average of 3.1 yards per carry.

McAdoo was the play-caller as offensive coordinator the past two seasons, including a year ago when Coughlin was taking the heat for all the late-game meltdowns.

Believe it or not, Williams said he was thinking when he caught the pass. “Wanted obviously to do the dance”. He wasn’t sure if he would get fined by the league, but joked that his teammates would gladly pay it. “Some plays I want to re-do, I guess you could say, but for the most part I felt like I prepared”. Although he didn’t commit a turnover, he wasn’t able to score a touchdown either.

While Dez Bryant was back healthy, he managed just one reception for eight yards on five targets.

The perception is that Dak Prescott played like a rookie quarterback. The one play that I think that cost them this game was the catch by Williams with little time on the clock, and he did not get out of bounds.

One positive for this team was the kicking of Dan Bailey, who was ideal on his four field goal attempts and his one extra point attempt.

“In my mind, I was trying to make the first guy miss and then dive out of bounds”, Williams said, per the Star-Telegram.

REINFORCEMENTS: The opener brightened the outlook for the NY defense after its overhaul in free agency.

And it was Dallas’s clock management error that allowed Big Blue to be victorious, when Terrance Williams chose to run up the field instead of out of bounds, letting the clock expire. Prescott was 25 of 45 for 227 yards. Manning found WR Victor Cruz for the game winner, and with Cruz returning after being down since 2014, the combo will look to hook up again against a porous Saints defense. Though, the rookie did add the first touchdown of his career (watch here). While the loss isn’t on the 4th year wide receiver, a last minute chance to win it is.

Regardless of how it may seem, all hope is far from lost in Dallas. Romo broke a bone in his back in a preseason game at Seattle. He’s expected to be back in the lineup by mid-October. It’s not from protesting players or another overruled Dez catch, but the sun!
