Democratic rivals Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders were in a close race.

A count by the Associated Press shows Clinton securing the delegates she needs to become the first female presidential nominee from a major USA political party.

Lines have been short around New Mexico but county clerks around the state say there has been a steady stream of voters turning out for the primary. “It’s not out of the realm of possibility”.

Montana has 27 delegates at stake Tuesday. Under the pre-SB54 system, Gochnour was eliminated at the Weber County Republican Convention and those delegates would have essentially installed Harvey as Weber’s next commissioner. A protest vote against Trump will be measured by his securing about 75% of the Republicans who vote, meaning one-quarter of the Republicans are not satisfied with the GOP presumptive nominee.

There were jitters among poll workers and voters Tuesday morning, but no problems, said Scott Konopasek, Contra Costa County assistant registrar of voters.

At every polling place and early voting site, voters will be able to take a ballot selfie with their un-marked ballots and their “I Voted” stickers in front of a new Ballot Selfie poster, and are then encouraged to share their experience with their friends and family through social media.

Elysse Crabtree, 24, was unaffiliated and changed her registration to Democrat expressly so she could vote for Sanders. “We have five at the civic center, five at the Tays Center, three at the Fairgrounds and two in Tularosa”, she said.

For the 2016 elections, Republicans wanted to compress the initial primaries and limit debates so that an establishment favorite – Jeb Bush for most — could wrap up the nomination early.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Greg Gianforte was the latest high-profile GOP leader to publicly support Trump on Monday.

“It’s hard to get a read on what he really stands for, and I think that some of that is intentional”, Westendorf said.

Gianforte and Bullock easily defeated their opponents in the gubernatorial primary elections. So while she was already at a disadvantage to begin with, the massive campaign to defeat her has made her an even bigger underdog, according to state observers. His candidacy allowed Gianforte to keep contributions earmarked for the primary. The victor of the race between Gail Gutsche, Mark Sweeney and Lee Tavenner will go on to the general election against incumbent Republican Bob Lake of Hamilton.

The polls are open in six states on Tuesday as voters cast their ballots in the presidential primary, with many looking towards November’s general election.

In the other marquee contest Tuesday, California voters faced a historic choice for U.S. Senate that could for the first time pit two Democrats against one another in November. An ongoing ideological split between moderate and conservative factions of the Republican Party has resulted in several challenges to incumbents that could determine the direction of the Legislature.

After months of watching other states vote, the most populous state in the union heads to the polls for its primary election today.
