President Hillary Clinton Could Put Obama’s Climate Record to Shame

Senator Bernie Sanders, who is challenging Clinton for the Democratic nomination, has been opposed to the project for years and has chided Clinton for her indecision. It had already fallen 4.4 percent on Monday after Clinton tweeted her intent to tackle high prices of some drugs.

But as political pressure mounted throughout this campaign season, she hinted that the time had come to show her hand. And Clinton, as the president’s first secretary of state, had started the Keystone review.

Tuesday’s announcement tracks with what Clinton has said about Obamacare in the past: She supports the law, but feels tweaks and changes are needed. “It’s September”, the aide said. As a candidate, however, she has dodged the question of KXL, a longstanding litmus test for many environmental advocates.

Hillary Clinton’s plan to rein in prescription drug prices by reshaping how drugmakers do business is being met by skepticism within the industry.

“It’s good for me to be informed as to where a potential president stands on those issues”, Cullison told Business Insider in a phone interview.

The student added that she “was afraid of her answer, to be honest”. The campaign briefed the White House on her position before the Iowa event. “I want to wait and see what he and Secretary (John) Kerry decide”.

If she were president, moreover, Clinton’s opposition would hardly help cultivate cooperation on trade and cross-border regulation with Canada. She was asked about Keystone a number of times, particularly in Canada, where the pipeline would originate.

The media and her opponents hammered Clinton for months for refusing to take a stance on the issue.

TransCanada issued a statement after the announcement, without referring to Clinton. “I don’t think it is in the best interest of what we need to do on climate change”.

The State Department has been releasing the emails to the public in keeping with Clinton’s request after redacting parts of them to remove sensitive or classified information. In a democracy, said Hannaford, the right things always get done for the wrong reasons. Convincing Obama to kill the project once and for all remains a top goal for climate activists- but getting Clinton to finally come out against it will serve as pretty nice consolation prize for now.

Former Maryland Governor O’Malley slammed Clinton for taking so long to take a position.

“Now, as the opposition to Keystone XL mounts, the decision [to reject the pipeline] remains with the President”, said Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune. “Clearly it would be absurd to encourage the extraction and transportation of some of the dirtiest fossil fuel on the planet”, he said in a statement.

Jindal, who has made the repeal of the health care law a centerpiece of his Republican presidential campaign, said in an interview that it was “appropriate that the godmother of Obamacare would be in Louisiana promoting socialized medicine”.
