President Obama announces gun initiatives

“I would agree. I don’t think it’s something Obama should go about an executive order with, rather present it to Congress and let the majority decide”.

The announcement came just four days before several firearm dealers are expected at a gun show at the Union County agriculture center.

Millions of guns are sold annually in informal settings outside of gun shops, including many through private sales arranged online.

“Every single year, more than 30,000 Americans have their lives cut short by guns”, said Obama, adding “people are dying” as a result of gun violence.

Obama famously cried during a speech right after the 2012 shooting in Newtown as well.

President Barack Obama addressed his hometown’s devastating gun violence problem Tuesday, mentioning that “it happens on the streets of Chicago every day”.

“It’s not where you do it, but what you do”, said President Obama speaking about the types of purchases.

In addition to requiring all gun sellers to possess licenses, and to perform background checks, mental health restrictions will be added to the NICS background check system.

Starting the last of his eight years in office, the President announced he was taking action to increase background checks on gun sales, and to institute new penalties for illegal gun sales. No one we spoke to was an unlicensed dealer, and they already conduct background checks.

But Tennessee Republicans blasted the president for going around Congress and called his actions an assault on the rights of gun owners.

After he announced his efforts, Obama hugged the family members of victims of gun violence.

It would also encourage the Pentagon, with its vast buying power, to procure weapons from manufacturers who use “gun safety technology” such as fingerprint scanners.

Obama has received stark criticism for his support of gun control measures, as the Second Amendment provides United States citizens with the right to bear arms. Furthermore, part of a statement released Tuesday following the President’s remarks said in part “people do not need more emotional, condescending lectures that are devoid of facts”.
