In his remarks, the president acknowledged that much work remains to be done to successfully reintegrate usa war veterans into civilian life.

For vets looking to make their lives better, he called for improved health care, education and job opportunities. “It is also a reminder of all they still have to give to our nation and our duty to them”, the president said. “Our tributes today will ring hollow if we do not ensure that veterans receive the care that you have earned and you deserve”, he said. He said his message to every veteran is “that I am still not satisfied”. VA has added 1,400 doctors and seen more than seven million more patients than it did in the year before the crisis.

The following year, President Woodrow Wilson issued an Armistice Day proclamation, declaring that “To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory”. “We have now slashed the disability claims backlog by almost 90 percent”.

At Arlington National Cemetery, President Obama laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns paying tribute to veterans and their families.

Obama brought this up as the state of Virginia, the city of Las Vegas and two cities in the state of NY announced their number homeless veterans has been reduced to zero. “We are not going to let up”.

VA Secretary Robert McDonald agreed with the president.

Obama recognized and thanked veterans of World War II, as this year marks the 70th anniversary of the victory in Europe and the Pacific.
