President Obama issues executive actions on gun control

Invoking Martin Luther King Jr., the president said the country needs to possess a “fierce urgency of now” to combat gun violence to not only discuss the latest mass shooting, but to prevent it.

As part of Obama’s plan, The White House will introduce a new requirement that would expand background checks for buyers. 10 percent of his vendors who sell guns from their private collection, don’t have a firearms license.

“I think it’s a great idea”.

“It really doesn’t affect a whole lot in OR and Washington, because what he is trying to do is tighten up the background checks to be like OR and Washington”, Priller said. “He’s saying, ‘I am the supreme leader, I’m the guy who’s going to put this law in because I say it, not because of Congress.’ If you can’t get it through Congress, it shouldn’t go in”.

“After giving them every chance to do something, the president decided we can’t wait any longer for these initiatives”, Biden said of lawmakers in an interview with NBC Connecticut in Hartford. Gun shows or individual buying of guns do not require a background check only if guns are purchased from dealers.

Congress has not passed meaningful gun control measures since the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary. If someone wants a gun, they’ll find a way to get one.

Chief Deputy Greg Egan with the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office says they’ve also seen an influx of permit applications, with more than 500 hide and carry permit applications since the beginning of December.

“Like any law, most of the time are for honest people”.

Fankhauser says if you’re using a gun for self defense, that technology might not be reliable.

“We still hold out hope the Congress will understand they need to do something”, she said, but added that the most effective route now seemed to be to advance background checks and gun trafficking on the state level.

Sanders Jr. said obtaining an FFL is not an easy process because there is already a waiting period to get an FFL.
