President Obama passes baton to Clinton, imploring nation to elect her

As she prepared to deliver her speech, people familiar with the matter said the FBI is investigating a cyber attack against another Democratic Party group, which may be related to an earlier hack against the Democratic National Committee.

“I see Americans of every party, every background, every faith who believe that we are stronger together – black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American; young and old; gay, straight, men, women, folks with disabilities, all pledging allegiance, under the same proud flag, to this big, bold country that we love”, Obama said.

The convention provided hours of glowing tributes, including deeply personal testimonials from her husband, former President Bill Clinton, and former boss, President Barack Obama – tributes the party hopes will help her build trust among a skeptical public.

In the city where America’s founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence, Mr Obama declared the November election a “fundamental choice” about what the country is and the very “meaning of our democracy”. Even Sanders was booed earlier in the day when he begged his supporters to support Clinton.

“He wants to divide us from the rest of the world and from each other”, Clinton said, mocking Trump’s claim that he alone can “fix” the country.

Yet resentments lingered throughout the convention, with a handful of attendees booing during her address. The appearance of him encouraging Russian Federation to meddle in the presidential campaign enraged Democrats and Republicans, even as he dismissed suggestions from Obama and other Democrats that Moscow already was intervening on his behalf. You know, I was right there last night next to that stage and I’ve got to tell you it really looked like Hillary Clinton was trying to take all of this in trying to remember this moment in history.? “Democrats are the party of working people, but we haven’t done a good enough job showing that we get what you’re going through, and that we’re going to do something about it”, she said, promising to push through Congress the biggest jobs and investment bill since World War II.

Obama took aim at Trump’s campaign slogan and promise to “Make America Great Again”.

“America is already great”. She tells the Democratic convention that the achievement is special “for grandmothers and little girls and everyone in between”. “Donald Trump, you are no Ronald Reagan”, said Doug Elmets, a Reagan administration aide, echoing a famous debate quip by vice presidential nominee Lloyd Bentsen in 1988.

“Preach!” members of the crowd shouted. She’s repeatedly emphasized her loyalty to the president, her time serving in his Cabinet and her dedication to preserving his accomplishments.

Obama listed what he described as progress during his two terms in office, such as recovery from an economic recession, the Obamacare healthcare reform and the 2011 killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. He called Trump a “con”, a “dangerous demagogue” and “risky”.

By contrast, many prominent Republicans, alarmed by Trump’s provocative comments on illegal immigrants and Muslims, were absent from the party convention that nominated Trump for the White House in Cleveland last week. At the Republican convention, Trump’s business partner delivered a tribute.

That said, the most recent nationwide polls averaged by RealClearPolitics.com put Trump at 45.6%, Clinton at 44.7%, a difference of less than a single percentage point.

The Democratic National Convention erupted into a deafening celebration over a woman being thisclose to the presidency, 240 years after the USA was founded and almost 100 years after women got the right to vote.

Hillary Clinton celebrates among balloons after she accepted the nomination.

With Clinton, “our worldwide relations will not be reduced to a business transaction”, Allen said.

Clinton also offered an olive branch to those who backed her rival Bernie Sanders, telling them their voice had been heard, even as isolated voices of dissent echoed around the Philadelphia sports arena.

Trump’s not running against any of the guys who cut him up. “That’s a bunch of malarkey!”

It makes sense, Bloomberg has been a Republican, a Democrat and an independent. What you want to say?

More than three-quarters of voters – 77 percent – without college degrees said the country is on the wrong track, the highest percentage among all income levels. “I’m a New Yorker and I know a con when I see one”.
