Khizr Khan gave a speech at last week’s Democratic convention claiming Trump “sacrificed nothing and no one”, prompting Trump to speculate why his wife Ghazala hadn’t delivered her own remarks (she later said she was too pained over her son’s death to remain composed during remarks). For decades, buttons and flags adorned with Gold Stars have been displayed by American families as symbols of the ultimate sacrifice.

Alaska’s other us senator, Dan Sullivan, said he condemned any statement or action, including recent remarks by Trump, that undermines the sacrifice of Capt. Khan and his family, or any of our other fallen American soldiers.

Though he didn’t mention Trump by name, Obama also expressed frustration over those who denigrate the military.
Criticizing Trump for his intolerance and ignorance, Khizr held up a pocket copy of the U.S. Constitution and discussed equal rights and liberty while accusing Trump of having “sacrificed nothing and no one”.

The president conceded that troops levels have dropped somewhat from the height of the Afghan and Iraq wars. “But let’s get some facts straight”, he said. And we’re going to keep it that way.
