President Obama’s Summer Reading List

Obama wrote back on August 3, saying Lily seemed “like a great kid, and I can tell that you have plenty of spunk to help keep our nation strong”. President Obama said that “Abraham Lincoln was able to have regular office hours where people would come and wait outside his office, which was over in the residence”.

A classic crowdpleaser, it’s been on everyone’s summer playlist since 1966.

Still in the early stretch of his 16-day vacation in Martha’s Vineyard, President Obama has released his 2016 summer playlist.

The indie rock ballad is sandwiched between Leon Bridges’ Smooth Sailin’ and Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.

Just like past year, Obama couldn’t narrow his summer jams down to just one playlist, so he split them up into “Day” and “Night”. Let’s just hope Hillary has been brushing up on her Spotify Discover channel. For example, did anyone think indie darling Courtney Barnett would be something the President was listening to?

The playlist also shows Obama’s loyalty towards his favorite artists, as numerous performers listed in President Obama’s playlist have previously performed at the White House. You heard this new Chance the Rapper?” or “What do you know about this Mary J. Blige and Method Man?

Barnett shares the coveted list with established stars such as Jay Z, Pharrell Williams, Common, Prince, and the Beach Boys.

Obama also released a 20-track “night-time” playlist including songs by Chance, Miles Davis and Janet Jackson.

The Commander In Chief’s team once again chose Spotify to highlight Obama’s seasonal taste in music, likely because the service doesn’t require a subscription for the masses to stream it.

Obama responded to Lily in a letter posted on the White House’s Medium channel, writing that she seemed like a great kid with “plenty of spunk to help keep our nation strong”.
