President Obama says Derek Jeter ‘stole money from me’ in golf game

While speaking, Obama recalled a previous trip to Vegas in which he hung out with Greenspun and New York Yankees legend Derek Jeter. When Obama arrived on the range, as he told a Las Vegas audience on Monday, he saw a nervous-looking Jeter shanking balls.

In March Jeter hosted his Turn 2 Foundation’s first Celebrity Invitational Golf Tournament there, drawing in the likes of Michael Jordan, Ludacris, and Ken Griffey Jr.

“[Greenspun] and Derek Jeter stole money from me at Shadow Creek”, Obama said referring to an elite golf course in Las Vegas, according to Politico. I said, ‘You play golf Derek?’ And he said, ‘I just started two weeks ago’.

So Obama took pity on the former professional athlete and spotted him 30 strokes. If they do go head-to-head on the course again, it’s certain he will not give the future Hall of Famer any strokes.

Jeter’s surprisingly good golf game meant Obama had to pay up: “And we had to take a picture of me handing Derek Jeter money at the end of it”. But Obama should’ve known better. “Despite that, Brian is a great friend”.

According to CNN’s State of the Union Address, Obama has played over 1,000 hours of golf (around 247 rounds).
