Obama said the USA has made serious progress improving services for veterans but should still be outraged about shortcomings and work to do better.

Obama did not mention Trump’s name, but said he’s “pretty exhausted of some folks trash talking America’s military” in remarks at the annual Disabled American Veterans conference, held this year at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta.

For those of you who have forgotten, US president Barack Obama’s Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) director Eric Shinseki stepped down from his post in May 2014. This means that overall veteran homeless is cut almost in half – by 47 percent – since 2010.

Speaking to a Disabled American Veterans conference, Obama highlighted the moves by the Department of Veterans Affairs to hire more doctors and open more clinics.

Obama also noted Monday that a half-million American veterans have voluntarily donated health data to the Million Veteran Program – a national database to study the impact of genetics on servicemen and women’s health, that is part of Obama’s Precision Medicine Initiative.

“I see a slight increase in veterans’ claims being processed”, said Steve Sanson, President of Veterans in Politics. The VA set a record by processing 1.4 million benefits claims for veterans last year, and this year it has processed more than 1 million. We are working very hard with the VA to establish a new appeals process so that veterans can get their appeals resolved in a timely manner. Veterans wait an average of three years for a decision, which the White House called “unacceptable”.

Augustine also expressed concern, shared by the White House, over a backlog of appeals. There are people who keep pressing for this radical proposal, but studies have shown the quality of VA healthcare is often better than private care.

The President will announce a major national milestone, veteran homelessness declined by 17% previous year to under 40,000 individuals.

For years, many Democrats have seethed while watching Republicans wrap themselves in the flag as they worked to deny the nation’s troops and vets benefits and services that they were promised.

“They continue to inspire us every day, every moment”, he said.
