US President Barack Obama will deliver an address to the nation from the Oval Office on Sunday night on “his highest priority: keeping the American people safe”, the White House announced on Saturday.

“The FBI added that, in coordination with local authorities, they are utilizing all necessary resources to pursue any and all leads in their terrorism investigation”, the statement said.

The Islamic State group on Saturday hailed the perpetrators of a mass shooting in the U.S. state of California as “soldiers” of its caliphate, without explicitly claiming the deadly attack. He previously explained that people who are too unsafe to board a plane can still walk into a store and legally buy weapons, but that it is something that has to stop.

“We know that ISIL and other terrorist groups are actively encouraging people – around the world and in our country – to commit bad acts of violence, oftentimes as lone-wolf actors”, the president said.

“It is entirely possible that these two attackers were radicalized to commit this act of terror”, Obama said.

Wednesday’s rampage in San Bernardino, which also wounded 21 people, was carried out by Syed Farook, 28, and his 29-year-old wife Tashfeen Malik.

He called on Congress again on Friday to change that law. Hours later, the couple died in a fire exchange with police. They’ve been particularly withering about comments by the president supporting gun control measures. “We may not be able to prevent every tragedy, but – at a bare minimum – we shouldn’t be making it so easy for potential terrorists or criminals to get their hands on a gun that they could use against Americans”.
