President Rouhani Cancels Visit to Italy, France after Terrorist Attacks in Paris

“On behalf of the Iranian nation that has been a victim of the scourge of terrorism itself, I strongly condemn these crimes on humanity and extend my condolences and sympathy to the bereaved people and government of France”, Rouhani said in the message.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that Rouhani postponed his scheduled visits to the European countries because of the tragedy in the French capital, the Iranian IRNA news agency reported.

Zarif stated the Paris attacks confirmed the specter of extremism was not restricted to the Middle East, so the struggle towards it shouldn’t be restricted to the area both.

“We hope and pray that all of our fans in Paris are safe”.

Gunmen and bombers attacked restaurants, a concert hall and a sports stadium at locations across Paris on Friday, killing at least 120 people in a deadly rampage that a shaken President Francois Hollande called an unprecedented terrorist attack.

It is also a major supporter of Iraq in its war against the jihadists independently of the US-led coalition. It is yet unclear how many attackers were involved in the seven attacks.

He also referred to a meeting with French lawmakers during a visit to Paris several months ago, saying Iranian MPs warned their French counterparts about the hazards posed by the IS group’s French citizens once they return home.
