President’s executive orders to tighten gun laws get mixed reactions in Wisconsin

President Obama said Tuesday that he wants to curb gun violence with his actions, but Wilson says the majority of guns used in violent crimes aren’t sold by licensed dealers but instead purchased on the black market.

President Obama has already released the details of the executive actions, which he is expected to announce later Tuesday morning.

“So why bother trying?”

“We all share the goal of reducing the intentional misuse of guns and enhancing the safety of our communities”, the NSSF said in a statement.

Anderson echos what many Iowa gun owners are saying. “They will acquire a gun, by hook or by crook”, Dumminger said. After two gunmen killed 14 people in San Bernardino, California, December 2, gun sales have skyrocketed, largely out of fear that stricter gun control measures were on the horizon.

“We have lots of gun sales that have one person selling to a neighbor or to somebody they know and it’s not even at a gun show or anything like that”.

He also announced actions meant to speed the background-checking process, facilitate access to mental care, expand law enforcement staff and strengthen rules surrounding the reporting of lost or stolen firearms. The president’s 2017 budget also will include funding for 200 new ATF agents to help enforce existing gun laws.

It’s possible that gun stocks could continue to move higher for the rest of the week as Obama plans to take his case for gun control directly to the American people with a town hall meeting that will be televised on Thursday night on CNN.

“December gun sales were through the roof, up over 100 percent versus our prior December”, owner Eric Delbert said. “Officers looking for illegal gun sales activity?”

The executive actions have been met with criticism from the firearm industry and gun owners who believe the new federal guidelines will not effectively combat gun violence and constitute an overreach by the Obama administration.

Charles Heller, co-founder of the Arizona Citizen’s Defense League, the state’s largest Second Amendment support group, shared Korwin’s skepticism.

“Every time I think about those kids, it gets me mad”, the president said, wiping away a tear. “Violating a gun law while they’re robbing the bank doesn’t matter because they’re robbing the bank”.

In other words, while the president’s announcement today is a major step forward toward accomplishing parts of his long-term policy agenda on guns, it’s also likely to spur a backlash that will result in more guns in the hands of Americans in the short term.

The President added: “We do not have to accept this carnage as the price of freedom”.

Within the gun show loophole, people are not allowed to sell to anyone that would not otherwise be able to purchase a weapon.
