OMAHA, Neb. (AP) – President Barack Obama is pushing back against claims in the heat of a presidential election that the USA economy and standing in the world are struggling. “The protester determined to prove that justice matters, and the young cop walking the beat, treating everybody with respect, doing the courageous, quiet work of keeping us safe”, Obama said.

South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley (R) seconded, saying to resist “the siren call of the angriest voices”. “Our country is being tested”, she said. “We need to start pushing our elected officials”.

She said Republicans must recognise their role in the declining trust in government in the US.
