Price hikes could begin at gas pumps

They’re forecasting prices to jump between 15 and 30 cents per gallon in the next week for motorists in the Midwest and Great Lakes regions.

AAA said until today gas prices had fallen for 26 consecutive days, due in part to the increased production of oil in the U.S. and the addition of 32 new oil rigs over the past six weeks, pushing down oil prices. The most significant refinery in the U-S midwest, owned by BP, has suffered a break-down in its larges crude distillation unit.

Nearly immediately, gasoline prices shot up on the concerns of reduced gasoline supply from the largest refinery in the Midwest.

Prices are expected to rise across all of western and central Canada as well.

The average price at the pumps by late afternoon Tuesday was $2.40 in Cleveland and Akron and $2.45 across Ohio, according to GasBuddy.

Decatur may be enjoying the same kind of gas price war that hit Champaign-Urbana two weeks ago, bringing it the lowest prices in the state, DeHaan said. “There’s been a push to be independent, and we’re seeing that now, and drivers are seeing pretty good savings”.
