Price picks up key endorsements in House leadership race

Hensarling, R-Texas, was considered by many to be a viable and more conservative alternative to McCarthy and one with enough tenure and leadership experience to make a serious run at the top House post. Tom Price announced he’s running for that spot and now has the endorsement of Paul Ryan.

House Budget Committee Chairman Tom Price (R-Ga.) secured the support of two key committee chairman for his bid to be the next House majority leader. “He and I have served for years together on the Budget and Ways and Means Committees, working to pay down our debt, fix our tax code, and grow our economy”.

Jeb Hensarling, R-Texas, left, talks to Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, right, at the conclusion of a hearing on “the annual testimony of the Secretary of the Treasury on the state of the worldwide financial system”, on Capitol Hill in Washington, Thursday, May 8, 2014. Tom has a proven record of advancing conservative solutions and principles.

Price is quickly gathering a good deal of conservative support for his bid for the No. 2 House GOP leadership slot.

Hensarling spokeswoman Sarah Hozier said Monday that Hensarling, who has previously chaired the House Republican Conference, made his decision “after prayerful consideration”. “He will support Chairman Price for Majority Leader”.

Scalise said his priority as House Majority Leader would be to unite Republicans behind an agenda to move the country forward.

Hensarling is chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and, like Price, is seen as a staunch conservative in the GOP. He ended that speculation Monday morning by backing Price. Cathy McMorris Rogers from Washington; Louisiana’s Steve Scalise and possibly Jim Jordan from Ohio for the position.
