Steers just didn’t want to be there when it happened. Steers, a descendant of Aaron Burr and nephew of Gore Vidal, previously wrote and directed the literate “Igby Goes Down” before giving the world two Zac Efron vehicles, “17 Again” and “Charlie St. Cloud”. Bradley Cooper’s ex girlfriend wowed in a glamorous nude netted gown at the premiere for the film, which she stars in as Catherine “Kitty” Bennet. But there’s a difference: Miss Bennet is a fully trained fighter – she even trained in Japan – so she doesn’t need a man to save her. Oh, and there are zombies roaming the countryside. “And there’s a reasonable explanation of the zombie apocalypse”. Perhaps, fans saw the book as more of an extension to the universe than that of any direct attack on Austen’s work. We’re really good friends. It’s played out as if Austen herself had written about the dead walking through the heather.
Yaffe plans to find out for herself when PPZ opens.

On a more scathing note, The Wrap thought it was a dumbed-down concept of “idiocy and irrelevance”, Empire branded it “a joyless dud” and the Hollywood Reporter wittily said it was “lifeless”. “I’m prepared to be pleasantly surprised”.
