A New Jersey priest is facing criminal charges, accused of pointing a Civil War-era musket at a child’s head and threatening to shoot him because the boy was a Dallas Cowboys fan, reports say.
Bergen County prosecutors claims the priest, from St Margaret of Cortona Roman Catholic church in Little Ferry, was unhappy that the boy supported the rivals of his team, the New York Giants. “So perhaps we have indication it started out as that”, Molinelli said.
The prosecutor’s office began investigating along with Little Ferry police, and on Friday, interviewed the priest at the rectory. “There’s no such thing as joking around with a weapon when you’re dealing with an 8-year-old kid”.
Carter, 54, called the boy into a rectory room, where he had him stand against a wall. Bail was set at $15,000 and Father Carter remains behind bars at the Little Ferry Police Headquarters.
“A search of his room located the weapon in question, as well as gun powder, ammunition and associated items for the gun”, he said.
The Giants, of course, lost that game 27-26, so maybe that’s a sign that God doesn’t like it when his authorized representatives on Earth (jokingly or not) threaten children over stupid football grudges.
It was unclear whether Carter has an attorney.
Ordained in November 1986, Carter, a Jersey City native, has served at six parishes in the Archdiocese of Newark. The Archdiocese contacted the prosecutor’s office three days later.

Carter has been assigned to St. Margaret’s since February of 2013, and oversaw major renovations to the church following Superstorm Sandy.
