Prime Minister Narendra Modi Holds Talks With President Barack Obama

“We are committed to providing local innovative start-ups with the support needed to help India’s IOE (Internet of Everything) ecosystem grow, increasing consumer choice and availability”, Qualcomm executive chairman Paul E Jacobs said.

During the talks, Modi underlined the need for concrete outcomes at the upcoming global conference on climate change in Paris even as Obama said India’s leadership at the meet will set the tone for decades to come.

He also thanked Obama for supporting India’s permanent membership of a reformed UNSC, saying that he also sought USA support for completing the reforms within a fixed period of time.

“We have to achieve one thing; to bring women into decision making”, said Modi, who playfully noted that while most religions portray deities as male, India has no shortage of goddesses. An editorial in The Nation on Monday said that everyone loves a good old showdown between politicians, but in the case of prime minister Nawaz Sharif versus his Indian counterpart Modi, “we have our backs to the wall”.

But he has critics: Some activists organized protests on Sunday to press the prime minister over creation of a Sikh homeland, along with alleged mistreatment of Muslims and Christians by groups linked to his Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party.

Mr Obama warmly received Mr Modi by hugging him before their meeting, the third between them since May previous year.

“The Prime Minister is misusing his official visits overseas and we demand an independent inquiry (into the rallies)…With 100s of millions of dollars spent in their organisation with activists of the RSS and others going months ahead for preparations”, he remarked. Modi also laid emphasis on connecting with the Indian diaspora community in Silicon Valley. The Silicon Valley is home to scores of Indians working in technology. Mr. Swarup said the “take away from the meeting was the continuing and increasing personal chemistry between the leaders who address each other by first name”.

Modi announced a thrice-weekly Air India flight from New Delhi to San Francisco from December 2. “We put pressure on the UN”.

“To leaders all over the world; you are not going to gain by running away from social media”, said the tech-savvy premier during a town hall-style question and answer session. “Once it has to be made clear so that the world can decide which path it should follow and only then peace will prevail”, Modi said.
