Prince Alexander christened in Stockholm

The photogenic couple had a big day on Friday, when their son, Prince Alexander, was baptized at Drottningholm Palace Church in Stockholm, Sweden. The service, which was attended by other Swedish royals, politicians and glamorous guests, is being aired for the nation by SVT and was followed by a reception and lunch for VIPs at the picturesque Drottningholm Palace – the private residence of the Swedish royal family, originally built in the late 16 century.

New mum Sofia, 31, was resplendent in a white broderie anglaise dress, and couldn’t have looked happier as she doted on her first-born.

Victoria’s daughter Princess Estelle, four, looked sweet in a pink dress while Madeleine’s little girl Princess Leonore wore a green frock.

Carl Philip’s father, King Carl XVI Gustaf, is Sweden’s head of state, but his duties are ceremonial and he holds no political power. As for godfathers, Carl Philip’s best friend, Jan-Åke Hansson and the prince’s first cousin Victor Magnuson are named.

He’s the only child of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia, who Wednesday on 13 June 2015.

The ceremony is set to be held at 11 o’clock at the Drottningholm Palace Church in Sweden on Friday.

Baby Alexander was baptised using water from a spring on the island of Öland – a long-standing tradition. Sofia’s two sisters also attended the event and her sibling Lina – who is godmother to Prince Alexander – delivered a reading during the service.
