Prince whose full name was Prince Rogers Nelson died on April 21.
The Associated Press was the first to report on the opioid overdose and according to them it was not immediately clear if Prince had a prescription for the drug or not.
Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opiate analgesic that is similar to morphine, but more potent, according to the National Institute in Drug Abuse.
Alexander has studied if doctors are becoming more cautious when prescribing the drugs.
The investigation could possibly be set to focus on determining who supplied the fentanyl to Prince and whether that source was legitimate or illegal. If he did not, the person who gave it to him could be prosecuted.
In the weeks following his death, friends suggested the “Little Red Corvette” singer had suffered from severe hip pain for years. Under Minnesota Law, the person can face a third degree murder charge and up to 25 years in jail.
Two doctors were already under scrutiny before the autopsy findings. Later on, the medication was confiscated by the authorities for investigation.
Fentanyl is often prescribed to patients undergoing cancer treatment.
Toxicology tests found he accidentally overdosed on the opioid fentanyl.
In the piece – which dives into why medical interventions are needed for opioid dependence and addiction – Kornfeld also notes that he “saw just how good a friend” the singer was “to those closest to him”.
The medication buprenorphine, which is commonly used to treat opioid addiction, helps people struggling from painkiller withdrawal – and could have been the key to saving Prince, Kornfeld said.
The man who found Prince’s body has opened up about the harrowing discovery, insisting it was “a tragedy beyond words”.
The report indicates the legendary musician administered the drug himself. Johnson has issued a statement through his attorney asking for privacy.
But Prince is the most high profile victim yet. His impact on the musical charts really started to be felt with hit songs such as “I Wanna Be Your Lover” and “Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?” from his next album, Prince.
Be Civil – It’s OK to have a difference in opinion but there’s no need to be a jerk. A woman and a girl have claimed to be niece and grandniece, and another woman has claimed to be a half-sister.
