Prince ‘cremated in private ceremony’

Prince was slated to perform two shows earlier this week at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis but cancelled last week because of health concerns.

He also ruled out suicide as a cause of death. An autopsy has been conducted, but its results will not be released for at least four weeks, according to Prince’s rep.

Olson also said that no medical calls came from Paisley Park regarding Prince or within the past year.

Percussionist Sheila E and bassist Larry Graham were among the mourners who attended the small service.

“He really loved you all”, said Nelson to the hundreds of grieving mourners while leaving Paisley Park on Thursday, “Thank you for loving him back”.

A state senator in Minnesota is pushing to make the official state colour purple in honour of music superstar Prince.

He said at this point, it is unclear how long Prince was in the elevator before he was found. She says Prince was special and “he was ours”.

“This is a tragedy for all of us”, began Sheriff Jim Olson.

“For our generation, he was the songbook and the narrative for some of the greatest moments of our individual lives”, she said.

Participants in the ceremony handed some fans outside gift boxes that contained items such as Prince-themed apparel and a compact disc of music. Doctors recommended the 57-year-old remain at the hospital for 24 hours, but he chose to return to Minneapolis when they couldn’t give him a private room. At the time a representative for Prince assured fans he was feeling much better and was resting at home.

TMZ reported that Prince had been treated for an overdose of Percoset just six days before his death when his plane made an emergency landing to administer a “save shot”, which is said to counter the effects of opiates. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday.

He refused to comment on reports that the star had been taking a powerful painkiller before his death, and a medical examiner’s office spokeswoman refused to say whether any prescription drugs were taken from Prince’s home after his death.
