Prince George meets Obamas in his pajamas

But Prince George was all smiles as he played on a rocking horse, encouraged by his parents.

It is the first time that William and Kate have entertained a head of state privately at their 22-room Kensington Palace apartment.

The two couples had lunch together at Windsor, the queen’s weekend residence located west of London, to mark her 90th birthday, which was on Thursday. She had requested to be allowed to meet Queen Elizabeth II, and was happy when the Queen greeted her, said President Obama.

Speaking at a town hall event in the Royal Horticultural Halls of central London, President Obama took questions about LGBTQ and civil rights in the U.S., and offered a measured criticism of the Black Lives Matter movement. Inside, the queen led the group into a sitting room warmed by a fire and asked the president where he wanted to sit.

Childrenswear designer Rachel Riley is a firm favourite of the Duchess, and designed Princess Charlotte’s floral dress in her first official photos.

The president and first lady presented the queen with a photo album featuring moments from her previous visits with US presidents and first ladies.

“I have to say, I have never been driven by a Duke before”, Obama later joked.

After the lunch Mr Obama is expected to hold bilateral talks with David Cameron in Downing Street. They also posed for a photo before heading inside.

Prince George has stayed up past his bedtime for a special visit from a very important world leader. But still, he cited his health care law, financial industry reform, the Iran nuclear deal and “saving the world economy from a great depression” among the issues he hopes to be remembered for. Backers of those who support Britain’s exit, meanwhile, have accused Obama of hypocrisy and interference.

The Brexit campaign has been told to “get a grip” after going into meltdown as it reacted to Barack Obama’s pro-EU intervention.

“Just here, don’t you think?” the Queen said, gesturing toward a spot in front of a roaring fire between a pair of sofas. “That’s why the United States cares about this”, he said.
