Prince George’s spirits were flying high at royal air show

Prince George sits in the back seat of a “Squirrel” helicopter similar to the one that his father Prince william trained on as he visits the Royal global air tattoo at RAF Fairford, Britain.

Prince George completely stole the show as he made a surprise appearance at his first United Kingdom royal engagement on Friday during the Royal International Air Tattoo in Gloucestershire. This is the very first time Prince George has visited the Royal Institute Air Tattoo show.

He was lifted by his father into the cockpit of a Red Arrows Hawk jet while a member of staff explained the controls, and the family also took the chance to climb aboard a Squirrel helicopter.

Flight Lieutenant Jim Hobkirk, of the Central Flying School Exam Wing, said that George was “a bit overawed” by the aircraft.

“It was a nice family moment”.

At just two-years-old, the prince follows in the footsteps of Princess Leonore, Princess Madeleine of Sweden’s daughter, who recently carried out her first official event in her duchy, Gotland province, with her mother and father. Prince George pointed to the tail rotor of a helicopter. “The Duke was telling him, ‘I used to fly these'”.

These stunning pictures of the planes at this year’s Royal International Air Tattoo were taken by Gloucestershire photographer Duncan MacKellar.

It was obvious this event was not Prince George’s favourite Royal engagement.

Are they just the most handsome family or what?

Meanwhile, Kate stands as the Honorary Air Commandant, which is thought to help in recruiting girls as Air Cadets.

As parting gifts the toddler was handed a pair of blue ear defenders and a blue piggy bank.

She said: “It’s been great fun meeting new people, especially the cadets from the International Air Cadet Exchange”.

And chuffed George was treated to a blue Air Cadets sticker as a special treat.

The Duchess is the patron of the RAF Air Cadets.

George’s third birthday party will be Royal Air Force themed. And, aside from a major crying fit soon after he arrived, the little prince totally nailed his royal appearance! A year ago the show featured 19 different nations showing off 247 aircrafts.

On the ground the show will showcase multi engine transporters, vintage aircrafts and remarkably rare cars.

Prince George stole the show overnight as he joined his parents for a fun day out at a military air show – but the normally impeccably-behaved youngster could be seen throwing something of a tantrum shortly after his arrival.

The blue sticker on his T-shirt was from 2014, which celebrated the 50th Display Season of the Red Arrows. The young prince even got to have sit in one of the famous Red Arrow jets.
