September, 2017. Toronto’s games are slated to feature more competitors and more sports than the event has had before.

Prince Harry spoke in Toronto this morning to launch the countdown to the 2017 Invictus Games, telling the packed crowd in attendance that the games will be “your chance, your opportunity to salute your those who put themselves in harm’s way so you don’t have to”.
“And Toronto will take on responsibility for a competition that has the power to inspire millions of people around the world and to remind us all of the unbelievable contribution that our servicemen, women and veterans make”.
He said the guilt he experienced then helped set him on a path to finding a way to honour fellow soldiers.
President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama posted a video to social media last week challenging Prince Harry to the Invictus Games, an global event where wounded, injured or sick armed services members and veterans compete in sports. He was struck with the desire to do something to support veterans like these who returned home from war with injuries. “And this event shines a spotlight on their unwavering strength of character”.
Sledge hockey – a form of ice hockey for players with disabilities – will be a new addition to the Toronto Games and at the Mattamy Athletic Centre Harry will watch a demonstration of the sport by the Canadian national team.
The prince will also have a private afternoon meeting with Ontario Lt. -Gov.
The prince has been the driving force behind the Invictus Games for injured, wounded and sick servicemen and women and veterans, and staged the inaugural event in London to great acclaim in 2014.

The prince and politician greeted each other warmly when they met at the exclusive Fairmont Royal York hotel in Toronto which is hosting the launch ceremony for the games.
