Rolling Stone described the preview performance as a “once in a lifetime event” with “familiar melodies splintered into virtuosic cascades for a dreamlike effect, as though Prince was remembering the birth of his career in real time”.

This is not the first time Prince has left Perth off his Australian tour, with his past tours never scheduling shows on the west coast.

Legendary singer-songwriter Prince has suddenly announced he’s in his way here this month to play shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland.

Tickets go on sale for Princes’ New Zealand shows at 12 noon on February 11.

Ticket buyers will have to produce photo ID to pick up their tickets from the venue from noon on the day of the show. You can see exactly what you get.

The multi-instumentalist, who skipped Perth the last time he toured Australia, in 2012, has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide and won seven Grammy Awards in a career that began with his debut album For You in 1978.

He did perform some solo shows at his Paisley Park Estate in the U.S. last month and set lists from those dates suggested a wide and varied selection of tracks from across his discography.

The tour is a first for the artist who usually always performs with a back-up band, most recently 3rdeyegirl, and was due to start in Europe previous year but this leg was cancelled after the Paris attacks which could explain the short notice visit down-under.
