An autopsy was performed Friday but the cause of death is still unknown.

The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office has completed Prince’s autopsy.
Olson said although many saw Prince as a celebrity the people in Minnesota saw him as a “good neighbor” and a longtime community member.
The sheriff said they received a medical call at 9:43 a.m. on April 21. He was announced dead roughly 30 minutes later. Authorities declined to say whether any prescription drugs were found in Prince’s home or comment on published reports suggesting the superstar had been treated for a painkiller overdose while traveling home from concerts in Atlanta last week.
Prince was found collapsed in a lift by staff members, Sheriff Olson said. She says she knew Prince had issues with his hip and knee from his years jumping off risers and speakers on stage in heels.
It’s not clear whether Prince had been in the elevator overnight, whether he had been taking any medication at the time of his death, or if police took any items from Paisley Park.
But those reports did little to prepare fans of Prince’s almost four-decade career for Thursday’s news.
Sales of Prince’s music soared after news broke of his death, and fans continued to leave floral tributes at Paisley Park.
When asked if the process could be sped up, the Sheriff said: ‘It’s best for us to do it well than for us to do it fast’.
Sheriff Jim Olsen also said, “There were no obvious signs of trauma on the body at all”. First responders found Prince in an elevator and began CPR but to no avail. “Anything which could be relevant to the investigation will be taken into consideration”, the medical examiner’s Office said in a press release this morning.
The singer was last seen alive on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. when an acquaintance dropped him off at his Paisley Park home in suburban Minneapolis. “Gathering the results will take several days and the results of a full toxicology scan could take weeks”, spokeswoman Martha Weaver noted in a statement.
On Thursday evening, the local sheriff’s office released the transcript of the 911 call made from Prince’s home to authorities yesterday morning. The caller struggles to provide an address before saying they are at Paisley Park and “yes, it’s Prince”.
