Prince’s Jacket From ‘Purple Rain’ to Be Auctioned
On Monday it looked set to be a clean sweep for Prince after his death last week at the age of 57, as the artist held all positions in the Top 5 of the album charts. It’s the greyish-black jacket that he wore with a white scarf on his romantic purple bike ride with co-star Apollonia Kotero.

A black-and-white blazer with leather sleeves worn by the legendary musician in his classic 1984 film, Purple Rain, will be put up for auction in June, according to The Associated Press. “This is the first time ever for something like this, and it might be the only time because the rest of the costumes may be in his (personal) wardrobe”.
“Prince memorabilia in general, it just really doesn’t exist”.
The Very Best Of Prince was at two, Ultimate was third and Purple Rain – OST from Prince & The Revolution climbed 51 places to fourth, the Official Charts Company said on Friday.
“It seems like he controlled it all”, Maddalena explained, noting a makeup artist on the film was apparently gifted the jacket by Prince himself.
That auction will also feature Michael Jackson’s sequined “Billie Jean” jacket that he wore during the HIStory tour of 1996, and his right-handed glove, studded with Swarovski crystals, from the Dangerous World Tour of 1992.
Three more Prince albums entered the higher reaches of this week’s chart: The Hits/The B-Sides at 13, Sign O’ The Times at 15 and 1999 at 28.
Meanwhile, the 57-year-old music legend who was found dead at his Paisley Park estate in Minnesota, was remembered in a private memorial service yesterday with a “musical celebration” confirmed for a later date.

Officials from the company had estimated the jacket would sell for between $6,000 and $8,000, but that was before Prince’s death, which drew an outpouring of tributes for the seven-time Grammy-winner from President Barack Obama, Hollywood figures and fans worldwide.
