AN ICONIC jacket worn by Prince in the 1984 film Purple Rain will be auctioned in Los Angeles in June, auction house Profiles in History has revealed. That makes the fact that the late musician has landed three albums in the Top 10 of this week’s Billboard 200 chart – including the #1 position – all the more impressive. Between radio takeovers, Purple Rain screenings, and musical tributes to the artist, the anthem has pretty much been on repeat ever since the news of his untimely passing broke.

Various TV networks have added Purple Rain to their schedules, while online, fans are able to watch the Warner Bros. film via iTunes, Amazon Prime and through on-demand services. “I don’t want you to sue me”, Prince told Cain. It shows you’re that classy of a guy. Over on the Official Singles Chart Update, six of Prince’s classic hits are on course to re-enter the Top 40, led by his signature hit Purple Rain, which is now at Number 2 behind Drake’s One Dance. “That particular phone call [from Prince] was wonderful”. “I didn’t know what to do on it so I said ‘I’ll just sit this one out, ‘ and everybody went, ‘No, no, just play, play whatever comes to your mind, ‘” the guitarist says.

“Prince memorabilia in general, it just really doesn’t exist”, Maddalena continued on the topic of the exclusivity of the item in the auction. Prince stars as “The Kid”, an up-and-coming frontman with a troubled background, who takes on rival musician Morris Day to maintain his house act slot at a premiere Minneapolis nightclub.
