Prince siblings in probate court in 1st hearing on estate

Here, Prince’s half-siblings will be treated the same as his sister, and so the estate would be divided equally among them.

A source tells ET that lawyers also met for about 40 minutes prior to the hearing in the judge’s chambers to hash out some lingering issues, including who will run Paisley Park and Prince’s NPG Records label.

As we previously reported, immediately after Prince died, Tyka filed legal papers to open a probate case. Wheaton says the siblings have been cooperating in settling the estate.

A source said: “Some of the siblings were hardly in his life but have now come out saying they want their share”.

According to the judge, all of his beneficiaries – Tyka and half-siblings Norrine and Sharon Nelson, Omarr Baker and Alfred Jackson – except for his half-brother John Nelson, agreed to the bank’s appointment.

All the relatives but John Nelson signed consent forms supporting the selection of the special administrator, which will be in charge of identifying and protecting Prince’s assets for six months or until another manager can be selected. His remains were cremated during a private ceremony on 23 April (16), a day after authorities completed an initial autopsy on his body. There have been disagreements about how to proceed as the Purple Rain star may not have left a will.

The bank where Prince conducted business for years – Bremer Trust, National Association – could play a key role as a special administrator to safeguard his fortune.

Natasha Robertson, a lawyer for Bremer Trust, said on Monday that the search for a will continued.

“We are not finding that there’s no will, but that no will has yet been found”, Judge Kevin W. Eide said.

Daily Mail earlier reported that a man claiming he is the love child of Prince also surfaced prompting heir investigators to verify the claim. “At this point, after much consideration, we have found his claim credible enough for our firm to commit its expertise and considerable resources to further investigate and advise him”.

“In particular, the intellectual properties included but not limited to music copyrights outside and inside the vault that are alleged to be exclusively owned and controlled by Prince Rogers Nelson at time of death are not exclusively owned and controlled by Prince Rogers Nelson at his time of death”, the declaration states.
