Prince tribute concert moved to Xcel Center

Venue-wise, Xcel (18,000 seats) is a steep capacity downgrade from U.S. Bank Stadium (52,000 seats), though the event is still expected to raise more than $1 million for Prince’s estate, the Star Tribune reports. Countless artists have paid their respects to the Purple One onstage since then, but the upcoming tribute concert at St. Paul, MN’s Xcel Energy Center will be the biggest celebration yet. He also held out the possibility of additional tribute shows at some point.
Lois Najarian O’Neill, a partner in the PR agency The Door, told The Associated Press on Thursday she hoped all questions would be answered in 24 hours. It’s telling how many fans booked travel without knowing any details, said Jeremiah Freed, aka Dr. Funkenberry, a longtime fan and friend of Prince who hosts a podcast and runs a website.
