After getting his start writing in the Army for Stars & Stripes during a tour in Korea, the Bronx-raised Marshall wrote for the sports section of The New York Daily News by day and wrote stand-up comedy by night.
Marshall passed away from pneumonia complications after a stroke, his publicist said in a statement. Penny Marshal and Ms. Williams starred in Garry Mashall’s “Laverne & Shirley.’ In January 1979, Mr. Marshall had three of the top five comedies on the air with ‘Happy Days, ‘ ‘Laverne & Shirley” and ‘Mork & Mindy.’ DAMIAN DOVARGANES/ASSOCIATED PRESS …
Marshall just finished a rewrite of the book “Pretty Woman” for the Broadway-bound musical.

“Garry Marshall was everything one could hope in a family man and talented artist who LOVED his life and art”, Jaime Lee Curtis posted on Twitter.
“Garry of course was one of those truly important people one is blessed to meet in one’s lifetime”, Gere told ET in a statement.
It wasn’t until the 80s that Marshall hit the big screens and directed huge films such as Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride. “Thank you for your loyalty, friendship and generosity”, he wrote. He was a writer or producer on many other shows throughout the 1970s and 1980s and created other series such as Blansky’s Beauties (a short-lived Happy Days spin-off), Who’s Watching the Kids? and Angie.
Marshall directed the 1988 smash comedy Pretty Woman, which made a star of Julia Roberts. “I hope I get to go where you are” and Alba calling him “a true pioneer”. Marshall, who is responsible for a wide array of work in both mediums, was beloved by those with whom he worked, and many have spoken to their relationship with the man and what he meant to them in the wake of his passing. He had a heart of purest gold and a soul full of mischief.

– Ron Howard (@RealRonHoward) July 20, 2016 I miss Garry already. And while the future of that project is entirely uncertain (now more than ever), Hathaway says she’s determined to keep his legacy alive in a way that has nothing to do with their careers, but everything to do with simply being a good person.
