Principal hit by bus; remembered as hero

The crash happened around 2:45 p.m. near Fox and Oaklandon roads. And so she did this Tuesday afternoon, after a stationary school bus inexplicably accelerated, jumping a curb towards a group of students.

The two children, both 10-years-old, were taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver told fire department officials that Jordan pushed several students to safety in the instant before the principal was struck.

Reith says the bus driver and 25 students on the bus weren’t injured. Investigators say a school bus lurched into the curb during dismissal time. “Quite frankly, ladies and gentlemen, we’re talking about a legend of education”.

The longtime educator was a fixture at the school, spending more than two decades there as principal.

Educators said Tuesday during an emotional news conference, that the loss of Susan Jordan will have a ripple effect throughout the district.

“Thank you Mrs. Jordan so much for all that you do”, begins the 11-minute tribute to the strains of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”.

Parents are being asked to pick up their kids at the school. Detectives have also requested a blood draw from the driver, a standard procedure in fatal crashes. “She had a passion for children that is unmatched”, the board said.

The district canceled classes at all of its schools Wednesday.
