Ramon had just started the second grade when he was killed in the fire at his Middletown home Monday.

Ramon Arroyo was stuck on the second floor of the two-story house in Middletown as the fire raged.

His two sisters, Cheyanne Arroyo, 16, and Leilaney Arroyo, 14, were rescued from the first floor by police officer Brendan Behan, who was on a routine patrol.

Officers were unable to get to the home’s second floor because of heavy smoke. The children’s father screamed for his son to survive, Schwarz said. His two sisters were taken to local hospitals for smoke inhalation.

“Our most heartfelt and honest condolences go out to the Arroyo family”, Karoly said in a statement Monday morning.

He had started second grade at Forest Avenue Elementary School last week.

Three children and five Middletown police officers were injured in a Middletown fire late Sunday night.

After they found him, and ambulances rushed all three children away, Schwarz said, the scene was eerily quiet.
