Almost 50 years later, Stackowitz, 71, was found at his home in Sherman, CT on Monday, using the alias Robert Gordon.
Robert Stackowitz’s application for Social Security played a role in his capture, authorities said.
After spending only a few months behind bars, Robert escaped to spend five decades as a fugitive.
That was until Monday, when the U.S. Marshals Service captured the escapee in Connecticut, The Danbury News Times reported.
Stackowitz was finally recaptured Monday in CT, the U.S. Marshals Service said in a statement.
Stackowitz is detained and expected to be taken back to Georgia. “This was the initial find in the investigation that drove them to confirm that it was Robert Stackowitz”. Law enforcement officials said he was known as “a nice gentleman” who did not have issues with local police.
Stackowitz, who also went by the alias Robert Gordon, lived alone and ran a boat fix business out of his home, about 2 miles from Saraceno’s office, the trooper said.

Stackowitz is now being held in a CT jail facility awaiting extradition to Georgia. This particular investigation included database searches, Schilling said, and comparing photographs. Sherman is located along the northern shores of Candlewood Lake, which is popular among boaters.
