Pro-Buhari Group and #BringBackOurGirls Protesters Clash in Abuja

The Bring Back Our Girls Group (BBOG) were on Tuesday challenged by another group during a march to the Presidential Villa.

Today, the group had forced its way through a police cordon at the Three Arms Zone, as it sought a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking outside the Villa, Aisha Yesufu, a leader of the group, expressed anger saying they could not be barred from embarking on a march in a democratic era.

But a member of the group leading the protest on Tuesday, Buky Sonibare, brought out copies of permits obtained from the police for that goal.

Nearly halfway to the presidential villa at the federal high court, the movement was again stopped by M. D. Garba, a police deputy commissioner, who kept mute on why they would not be allowed to embark on the march.

Ezekwesili warned that if the government and the police do not retrace their step, they could end up like the former administration of ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan, who was voted out of office for failing to rescue the abducted Chibok girls among other things.

He said: “They were only using the case of the Chibok girls as a scam”.

The police prevented a clash between the two groups.

Although President Muhammadu Buhari said he would be willing to concede to the demand, the BringBackOurGirls group said the government has not done enough to rescue the girls.

Another top member of the BBOG group, Dr. Emman Shehu, condemned the action of the security operatives by disrupting the march.

As they trudged on, the pro-Buhari group, #WithBuhariWeStand stood in their way chanting “Buhari is a man of peace, stop frustrating him”. “As far as I am concerned, there is sycophancy and lack of understanding of the relationship between the citizens and the leadership in our democracy”.
