Probe Needed In EpiPen Price Spike
It also thrust Mylan into the pending U.S. political contest, with Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton on Wednesday calling the company’s most recent price hike “outrageous” as it occurred just as allergic children prepared to return to school.

It also said patients would be able to use a savings card to cover up to $300 of cost of the two-pack of EpiPens. While CEO Bresch’s family ties may mute the ire of some lawmakers, others are already asking the company about taxpayers having to foot the bill for these price increases-particularly after Bresch and the company successfully pushed legislation to encourage the use of EpiPen’s in schools nationwide.
The announcement came Wednesday after Hillary Clinton publically criticized the company and the Federal Trade Commission threatened to launch an investigation into the drug maker’s possible violation of antitrust laws through price-hiking.
Under mounting pressure, pharmaceutical company Mylan says it will slash the costs of emergency EpiPens for some patients in the US. Mylan has increased the price for the product from about $57 a shot in 2007 to more than $600 for two auto-injectors today.
Back in May 2016, Parker became a spokesperson for an unbranded Mylan campaign called Anaphylaxis for Reel.
Mylan officials have yet to respond to Parker’s comments.
Even with insurance coverage, Kornrumph said she couldn’t afford the potentially life-saving drug.
“Here’s the perverse thing: Had we reduced the list price, I couldn’t ensure that everyone who needs an EpiPen gets one, so we went around the system”, said Bresch.
“My problem with buying them right now is my current provider doesn’t have the access to accept the rebate so when I take my copay coupon in, they have no way of processing it”, said Clifford. “It’s not to make insurers pay unreasonable prices, which are of course passed on to consumers at the end of the day anyway”.
Mylan said it had distributed more than 700,000 EpiPens to 65,000 schools in the United States. But that could be awkward since she’s the daughter of Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia…
It’s a lifesaving drug Dr. William Ebbeling prescribes to hundreds of patients and now he’s afraid the cost of the EpiPen will leave those with bug and especially food allergies even more vulnerable.
