Prosecutor hasn’t met with Castile family yet
Yanez, who is of Mexican descent, is cooperating fully with the state’s investigation into the shooting, Kelly said.

Castile’s girlfriend Diamond Reynolds was in the auto and streamed the immediate aftermath of the shooting live on Facebook. He told us over Skype that – prior to the Dallas shootings – he’d seen a tonal shift in the way his friends and acquaintances talk about race and policing. Authorities have not said why police stopped the auto. “Like a lot of you guys, I watched the videos, and was appalled and completely heartbroken”.
“Would this have happened if those passengers – the driver and the passengers – were white?” he said Thursday. “I’m very grateful”, Dayton said of the hundreds of people who have demonstrated in front of the Governor’s Residence in St. Paul, and those that later marched through the streets. Dayton said Friday that he stood by his statements and had no new information about the case, even as the head of a law enforcement organization ripped his comments as reckless.
The lawyer for Alton Sterling’s family is calling for peaceful protests in the wake of the Dallas sniper attack on Thursday, that left five officers dead and seven wounded.
The man who authorities say was the shooter has been identified as Micah Xavier Johnson, a 25-year-old African-American military veteran.
He was the second black man in two days fatally shot by US police. Police also have refused to release details, including what led up to the traffic stop, why Castile was pulled over or why the officer drew his gun.
The movement has highlighted the deaths as tragic signposts of widespread racial injustice and inequality, but Schommer said he never saw it that way.
“Once the investigation is complete, the BCA will turn its findings over to the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office without recommendation for review under Minnesota statutes”. According to the Star Tribune, 32-year-old Castile informed Yanez that he was carrying a licensed fire arm before he reached into his back pocket to get his ID.
In Louisiana, a man was accused of posting a video online showing him in his vehicle behind a police auto, saying he wanted to shoot and kill an officer. “He was just getting his license and registration, sir”. Yanez and his partner, Officer Joseph Kauser, were placed on administrative leave.
Castile was killed by police during a traffic stop on Wednesday, and his girlfriend posted footage of the confrontation on the Internet minutes later.
The bureau did not give the officers’ races.
Reynolds had said on Facebook that the officer had pulled them over because of a busted tail light, but Kelly said there that was not the only reason. He graduated from the Minnesota State University in 2010, and was sworn into the St. Anthony police department in 2011.
The previous year’s report includes a photo of Yanez solemnly standing guard at a memorial to fallen officers at the state Capitol.
Yanez has no criminal history and no history of civil lawsuits.
“He loved those kids so much”, teacher Anna Garnaas said at a vigil for Castile outside the school Thursday evening.
“This has to cease”.

Black Lives Matter protesters gathered that night outside of the Minnesota governor’s mansion, which is close to the shooting site, and a smaller group remained there Friday night.
